Case Study: HEBA – Bringing Consensus and Clarity to the Team

HEBA – the Heart of England Baptist Association – is a not-for-profit faith-based organisation whose role is to co-ordinate the very many things that require attention in an association of 170 churches and 10,000 people in congregations. With limited resources, working together on a common view of the priorities is critical to making the Association more effective.

Objective of the Work

The objectives of the assignment were to:

  • Develop an agreed understanding (amongst the team) of terms regarding strategy, vision etc
  • Develop a common view of an exciting future for the Association
  • Organise and manage the HEBA strategy meetings more effectively, with clear accountabilities in place

The Outcomes

The following outcomes were delivered:

  • Developed a clear and compelling mission, vision, strategy, strategic objectives, and action plans
  • Deeper teamwork and energised team members
  • Increased the Leadership’s confidence in the management of the organisation

The Approach

We facilitated a number of sessions with the leadership team to develop:

  • Session 1: A common language around Strategy
  • Session 2: Mission, Vision & Values
  • Session 3: Detailed Vision and Strategic Objectives
  • Session 4: Action Plans for delivery of the Strategic Objectives

“Everyone was deeply impressed – not only with the clear, effective way in which you responded to our request for help but the patient and good-humoured manner in which you did so. You …quickly demonstrated an understanding of the values and context within which we are operating… In a relatively short period of time you helped us to define our terms, develop a common view of an exciting future and look at some strategic objectives for the coming years.”
